Meeting of the SPECA Working Group on Gender and SDGs
On October 27, 2020, the online meeting of the Working group of the United Nations Special programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) on gender and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on the theme “Gender-responsive policies to achieve SDG5 in the context of COVID-19 pandemic and Critical and key emerging issues in the SPECA region” was held with the participation of the Committee's representatives.
Following the welcoming remarks made by the representatives of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the participants of meeting selected the Chair of the SPECA Working Group on Gender and SDGs.
During the main part of the meeting, were reviewed gender gaps and challenges, as well as SPECA's gender-responsive initiatives. Opportunities for future sub-regional cooperation were also discussed, on which reviewed the activities in 2020-2021 and identification of further sub-regional cooperation and reviewed priorities and future activities for 2021-2022. The Committee made a presentation on “Gender policy of the Republic of Tajikistan – sustainable development of the country” on which was provided information on assessing the current situation of the Republic of Tajikistan, the political and strategic framework for achieving SDG-5, improving legislation, main activities, policy measures during COVID-19, positive results in the field of entrepreneurship, eliminating negative stereotypes and further steps to reduce gender inequality.
